OHP Ltd  has considerable experience of providing Health Surveillance to employers.  They can be delivered on site or in one of our 3 premises spread throughout N Ireland.

  1. OHPLTD can deliver a Hearing Conservation Programme

  2. Lung function testing to ensure compliance with controls for respiratory hazards.

  3. Results are transmitted to secure encrypted password protected e-mails within two working days. 

  4. A standard pro-forma is used as a vast majority of employees undergoing Health Surveillance.

  5. Health surveillance is tailored to the risks within the workplace and can cover exposure to dust fumes noise vibration skin hazards and stress.

    OHPLTD can provide a comprehensive health surveillance program for any group of employees to ensure compliance with the appropriate legislation, including the Management of Health & Safety at Work Regulations 1992, and the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations (2002), Control of Noise at Work Regulations (2005), Control of Vibration at Work Regulations (2005).

    OHPLTD Comprehensive Health Surveillance will:

    ·         Identify work-related                                                                                                                            illness at an early stage so that the employer can introduce better controls to prevent further effects on health 

    ·         Provide data to help employers evaluate health risks

    ·         Highlight possible lapses in control measures

    ·         Provide an opportunity to reinforce training and educate employees on impact on health and use of protective equipment

     

    Experience

    OHPLTD aims to provide an efficient comprehensive health surveillance program for employers to meet statutory legal requirements for Health Surveillance or when a risk assessment identifies possible risk to employee health. This may include exposure to noise, dust, fumes, chemicals, vibration etc., by using the appropriate questionnaire and implementation of appropriate test, e.g. audiometry or lung function testing.  Any required baseline health surveillance is identified in compliance with current health and safety legislation and this will be included at Pre-employment level and the employer will be informed of the frequency of these tests.

    OHPLTD has provided occupational health (OH) services to many employers over many years which has afforded an opportunity for the OHPLTD team to gain an excellent understanding of their specific OH needs within the wide range of industries.

    Best Practice

    OHPLTD will provide guidance and advice to tailor the provision of health surveillance to meet the varying specific needs of all employers. OHPLTD adhere to recommended guidance from organisations such as the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) and the Faculty of Occupational Medicine, British Thoracic Society and British Society of Audiology to ensure OHPLTD Practitioners are competent and comply with best practice within the workplace, protecting the health of their workforce.

    OPHLTD’s Occupational Health Advisers (OHA) have specialist training in spirometry, audiometry, skin surveillance as well as specialist training in Hand Arm Vibration assessment (HAVS).

    On-site clinics

    The majority of health surveillance is delivered on-site clinics which are advantageous for a number of reasons:

    ·         More cost efficient

    ·         No travel time for employees   

    ·         Offers flexibility to liaise with line management to accommodate working shift patterns and minimise disruption to working schedule 

    ·         Fewer missed appointments   

    ·         Comprehensive health surveillance medicals can be carried out at most locations in one appointment to cover all health surveillance checks 

    ·         Provides an opportunity to work collaboratively and maintain a partnership approach with the employer to meet their health and safety requirements

    ·         Provides an opportunity for encouraging the engagement of employees in health surveillance, only effective with their co-operation

    ·         Reviewing a number of employees at one depot location can provide a clearer view of how effective the control measures are in local areas

    ·         Useful for identifying trends / patterns in local areas that may require further action

    ·         Provides employees with confidence and trust in their employer by demonstrating measures in place to detect health issues at an early stage and protect employees’ health

    OPHLTD will undertake 6 monthly audit of health surveillance clinics and the Lead OHP/ OHA will provide information on outcome at contract review meetings.
